A frequent Gold Medal winner—most recently in 2026, receiving the "Grand Or" medal at the Vinalies competition organized by the Oenologists of France in partnership with *Le Figaro* and the Gold medal at the Grands Vins de France competition — "L'Amarante" is the estate's "Signature" red Saumur. It is produced from vines currently in conversion to organic farming (AB) and holds HVE3 certification (High Environmental Value, Level 3, since 2021). It marks the beginning of a wonderful story that started in 2005 with an exceptional vintage. Why was this name chosen for the cuvée? It was not merely a whim of our son — who happily came up with the name — but a powerful concept that perfectly characterizes this "Signature" wine. Amaranth wood is a precious, wine-red timber from South America; it was used for marquetry on 18th-century château furniture and for the coffins of kings — a wood symbolizing eternity — and comes from a tree with an "immortal" flower. And, of course, "L'Amarante" rhymes beautifully with "L'Amante," its white Saumur counterpart. What can be said about the 2022 vintage? Visually, its garnet color is intense. On the nose, the aromas are complex: immediately, one discerns notes of red fruits (strawberry, raspberry) which are structured around subtle woody notes resulting from 24 months of aging in selected French oak barrels, then discreet notes of amaretto, licorice, cherry, and roasting emerge. On the palate, the attack is silky and elegantly fresh, blossoming into generous notes of mocha and ripe black fruits, finally developing a superb, mouthwatering, and saline finish, with a background of brioche and toasty notes. The tannins are elegant and supple. Serve at 16°C with meats and cheeses. The 2022 Amarante can be enjoyed now. Those with more patience will wait a few years.
